Guy had a big treat today – a trip on a straight motorway! After two days of zigzagging up and down mountain passes, we thought we’d bite the bullet and get a €15 vignette for Slovenia’s motorways. So glad we did. It’s amazing how quickly you get to places on a long straight road!
It was a bit cool again this morning and raining on and off. Thankfully, by the time we got parked up in Ljubljana and had lunch, it was 20 degrees and drying up.
Slovenia’s capital city is a real gem – we were completely surprised by it. There are beautiful buildings either side of the river that’s lined with outdoor cafes and bars and cross crossed with lovely old bridges. The castle towers above it all and is a good steep walk up to see the views of the city and surrounding hills. The whole place had a really nice vibrant atmosphere, especially around the market stalls and cobbled shopping streets. All very clean too, except for quite a lot of scrawly graffiti – not the arty kind.

After sitting and watching a band complete with double bass and violin, we made our way back to the parking. From the outskirts, you’d never guess how nice the centre is.

Tomorrow, we’ll have a walk through Tivoli Park which looks like a huge green space not from our base.
