Continuing with Guy’s “Boys Own” adventure, we’ve come into the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella (no, I can’t pronounce it either!) National Park in search of Musk Oxen. There’s supposed to be quite a few of them here – they were bought in from Greenland in the 1940’s. Unfortunately, they’ve not put in an appearance today. ☹️
It does feel like proper wilderness up here, but there’s a huge flat place to park that sits on top of an old iron ore mine, then it’s a short walk up a steep hill to the Snøhetta viewpoint. The wind was so fierce, it was quite hard walking against it.
At the top, the viewpoint is a work of art…or rather an architectural masterpiece. It won the World Building of the Year in 2011. It’s a big wood and steel box which is glass fronted and overlooks the the mountains. Inside, it’s all carved wood with steps to sit on and a big log burner in the middle – amazing. The ‘twisted fire starter’ was in his element bunging extra logs on. We sat there for ages, looking at the view and listening to the wind roar.

On the way here this morning, we stopped in Oppdal, another ski resort, so that we could go to a bank and put in a large contribution to the Norwegian Police pension fund….or in other words, pay Guy’s hefty speeding fine for being 7mph over the limit. 😬🙄The less said about it, the better…forgot to tell you about that one Dad! 🏎
