0FA938FB-20AF-4C3A-AF1C-C8DB966565BEA bit dopey this morning. Woke up about 2am and thought it was just getting dark, but it was actually getting light. Don’t think there was any proper darkness, just a sort of twilight and then dawn. We heard the Huskies being given their breakfast ..boy, they can’t half howl!
Set off north on a sort of B road to rejoin our original route which runs up by the Swedish border. We spotted our first reindeer at the side of the road and then gradually we saw more and more. It seems where there’s one there’s usually a small group.

The funniest bit was when three of them were just wandering along in front of us. One in particular gave us a look as if to say “what’s up with you?”. He then had a bit of a scratch with his back leg and eventually strolled off into the woodland. The Finnish drivers just sailed past, but it felt to us as if you need eyes in the back of your head, it seems that the road definitely belongs to them too…and so it should. They were so beautiful- such graceful animals.

We’ve struggled to find anywhere to stop today. Plenty of pull-ins by the lakes but the midges are out in force. We’ve only managed a small walk and had to break out the Jungle Formula for that! There were definitely reindeer droppings on the path ..it felt like we’d picked up the spore like a Matabele warrior in a Wilbur Smith book.8066A41A-BCC3-40C8-B512-77F739209018
