After a quiet night up in the mountains, it seemed like we were suddenly on slow and winding roads down the hill towards Pau. Then the roundabouts started! So many of them and chicanes too. We had to get on the toll road to prevent Guy’s head from exploding- €17 and 39 miles later, we were finally getting closer to Magnan. The tolls in France are becoming extortionate!
Had a lovely afternoon/evening with Guy’s parents and barbecued the nice steak we’d bought in Zaragoza – but suddenly, it started to look like pork. In the end, we all decided it was beef after all! Pastis probably doesn’t help. 😆
This morning (23rd), we made our way up to Bergerac on very slow roads, which became even slower when we had to avoid a low bridge.

Faffed around parking, then we remembered that it’s a really small town (well, the interesting historic bit is anyway). Got the obligatory statue photo then carried on up to Périgueux.
There’s good motorhome parking here, just outside the medieval quarter, and today, it’s free!
Nearly full though, so many motorhomes. Our very friendly neighbour has told us where to find the services, about the new square in town, the market that’s on tomorrow..even though we said that we’ve been here before. Whilst explaining all of this, his dog stole my sandal and then wee’d all over Guy’s foot! 🙄
The town is lovely. The massive, domed Cathedral St-Front looks really impressive from the outside but the interior is a bit bland. Some lovely little shops selling expensive things we’d like to eat or wear but didn’t succumb to the temptation.
Back to the van, the Spanish cheese mountain is calling!
