St-Jean-de-Côle

Kept a low profile this morning as it seemed like our neighbour might not know when to stop talking. He homed in on Guy though, as we drove up to the services….
“Oh hiya, have you been into town?”
“Where are you heading for next?”
normal questions, but then as we emptied the grey water…
“Got much to drain have you?”
For Gods sake!
“See you’ve lost an ‘ub cap?”
By this time Guy has picked up just enough of the brummie accent to make him attempt it for the rest of the day. 🤣
Short drive up the narrow lanes this morning to what was billed as ‘one of the loveliest villages in the Dordogne’.
Well, we haven’t fully explored the Dordogne area but any of the places we’ve been to previously would beat St Jean hands down. It is a very pretty French village but there’s nothing there really to warrant all the hype. Some nice little cobbled streets with lots of flowers out, a handful of restaurants and a church – we’d covered it all in ten minutes! 🤣

On to Limoges, where there was easy parking by the River Vienne and within striking distance of the old town. We walked up through the botanical gardens to the cathedral, where we walked in on some kind of service. 😬Then, wandered along a couple of old streets with half timbered houses and cafes and that was it..Again!
It wasn’t until we were much further north, I checked in the book and realised we’d missed a whole section of interesting old stuff 🙄..Never mind, we’ll have to do it next time!
Now a little further north at the Étang de Sagnat, a beautiful lake that apparently has a touch of blue-green algae, so not good for swimming. We’ve walked all the way around it, Guy carrying the zoom lens but didn’t really see much wildlife apart from bees, wasps and dragonflies. It does feel like a very peaceful place to park the van in though.
