The Bourtzi

Lovely quiet night by the sea with the occasional howling of jackals, but we had to move this morning as we needed to fill up with water and drain.

Decided to go to Methóni as it was only 8km away and has a fab Venetian fortress on the sea.

The seafront parking was already chock full of motorhomes and campers and we didn’t want to add to the problem. Fortunately, just as we were about to leave, we found a big empty car park on the way out.

Even though the fortress covers a massive area, we both just wanted to see the Bourtzi again. It’s a small fortified island attached to a cobbled causeway with an octagonal tower. Its location is stunning, but we didn’t hang around too long as there were hundreds of flying ant type things again.

Bought some bread in the town and made our way back to the deserted beach we left this morning.

Lovely hot afternoon with a bit of swimming for PE 😂 Then it turned windy, and we got entertained by a couple of Swiss wind surfers. Guy took some photos of them and they came over later to collect them. Really nice couple with a dog called Cinnamon, who fitted quite nicely in our lounge, but sadly didn’t want to stay.
