It was a little cool this morning – for us, anyway. I think there was a twenty degree difference to what we’ve been used to.

Set off down the gorge of Langáda en route to Mystra. Plenty of hairpin bends, steep climbs and overhanging rocks to negotiate with the reward of spectacular views of the Taiyetos mountains. There were quite a few little rocks on the road again – as if they’d just fell down. I’d have wanted a hard hat if we didn’t have a metal roof.

Mystra is a massive site of a Byzantine town that sprawls down a steep hillside. It’s very close to Sparta but there’s not a lot to see there now. There are churches, monasteries, palaces, some of them almost completely intact.

There’s a steep climb from the upper carpark to see the Kastro and expansive views below. Then back down the hill, we wound our way right to the bottom and then back up again, seeing every building along the way.

By the time we got back I was more of a ruin than the ruins!

Revived with an interesting lunch concoction – not much left in the fridge 😬, we then drove all the way back to Kalamata, doing both gorges with all their hairpins in one fell swoop.

Quick stop at Lidl, then out to a beach at Velikas near Messini.

Still debating whose idea Mystra was 🙄- someone stuck a pin in the map. Mr Nobody again! 🤣
