Except for the early one that got up at 7:30am (not in the rules on this campsite – no surfacing until 9:30 earliest).
The avid twitcher went to look for western swamp hens at sunrise..campsite gate was still locked, so he had to let himself out of the beach gate. Arrived back at 9:15am with zero photos and zero sightings!

There were tons of these weird birds around last year with their bright blue bodies and orange legs and feet. We can’t work out where they’ve gone – I wouldn’t have thought they could fly very far as they’re too big and ungainly.
Van cleaning this morning inside and out, then once it got really hot, 🥵 🙄we set off back into the nature reserve to have another look.
Just one! Away in the distance looking like a black round blur to me, but although out of focus due to the distance, it was definitely a swamp hen.

Only one other bird around which we think was a Marsh Harrier. Quite surprising as the whole place was teeming with insects, especially dragonflies and crickets.
Back to the pool to cool off then fall asleep 😴
