We heard the golden jackals again last night – such an eerie sound. We tried to record it but they always stop howling the minute you press record! We know there are quite a few of them on the Peljesac peninsula as I researched it last time we were here at Camp Lavanda.
Packed away this morning for a day of driving and getting nowhere fast. It doesn’t help when you string the weekly shop out between three supermarkets. We thought we’d try a local one rather than Lidl as we keep eating the same things all the time.
The prices were eye-watering in both local shops, and the fresh produce was all on its last legs, so back to good old Lidl in the end.
In between shops, we drove back down the Peljesac and over the new bridge to the mainland thus cutting out the necessity for passports through the Neum corridor. Can’t believe all this has changed in the last four years – in 2018 it involved ferries and green cards!

Such an overcast day but still great scenery heading north. We stopped for lunch at the ferry port at Drvenic and had a little walk around the bay.

Further north we had a near miss with a car that chose to overtake a coach on a bend. Lord knows how Guy avoided the crash but he somehow did. We were face to face at one point with the choice of barrier and a tiny bit of gravel in order to avoid her, with a VW Golf about two inches from our rear! 🙄We were shell shocked for twenty minutes afterwards!
Reached the lovely town of Omiš about 5pm. Just in time for a walk around the old town and up to the Mirabela Fortress…although not quite to the top for me as I knew it ended with a ladder!

Lying at the end of the Cetina gorge, the town has a brilliant setting between the cliffs, although it looks like they’re building a new road bridge across the gap – it’s the first time we’ve seen half a bridge in mid air!

Highlight of the day for Guy – we met an Airedale called Max, but sadly he had an owner, otherwise he’d have been in the boot!
