We can see two hills either side of Aberystwyth from the campsite. One is Constitution Hill and the other is Pen Dinas. “Let’s do both!!” said the one who likes running up hills. Having spent the morning cleaning and sorting washing, I was thinking more along the lines of coffee and a magazine.

We decided to do the hill fort first as it looked closest. Google maps pulled a right stunt on us, sending us on a two mile jaunt around the base of the hill and back to the beginning again. Asking a local wasn’t helpful …fifteen minutes of “we’ll let me see now, there is a path, but no, does it go left? I can’t quite remember, well anyway, you could go left and let me see….”Eventually, found the route up -reckon we could have done it in twenty minutes from the campsite if we’d gone the right way in the first place.

It wasn’t much to shout about, just a monument to Wellington but it is on the site of an extensive Iron Age hill fort. Good views of surrounding countryside.

Back down in the town, the last steam train was due to leave for its trip up the Rheidol Valley. Guy ran ahead to see if he could get on the platform for a photo. I watched it leave in a puff of steam through the fence.

By now, it was gone 4pm and the mountain railway on the other side of town was closed 🙄Nothing for it but another glass of Sherry in Ultracomida. 🥂Cheers!

Pen Dinas Hill Fort and more Sherry 🤪
