The wind was howling before 7am this morning..if we were getting out to escape the storm, it had to be now or never! I can’t function at all at that time in a morning, so it’s a good job the driver can.
No rain on our way out, but it took ages to get anywhere near light – it felt like the middle of the night.
We got on the motorway and headed south until the weather looked better.
Turned off before we hit the Almeria sprawl and came down to this tiny little place on the coast called Agua Amarga. We chose the safety of a motorhome site in case the weather followed us and also because we needed services.

Think we struck lucky, as what was once a tiny fishing hamlet, is now a beautiful little whitewashed resort consisting of a few low rise villas and a handful of shops and bars.
As the sun was shining, we decided to have an hour on the beach. Surrounded by chalky cliffs, the beach has some of the finest sand we’ve seen in a while. Within thirty minutes, we were both completely covered in it! So windy, the sandblasting was almost painful!

Overcast in the afternoon, so we set off on a walk around the headland to the next cove – Cala Enmedio.

The path up and over was very narrow and as we rounded the corner at the top, the wind was so strong we had to do a u-turn. Tried another route, but that didn’t go anywhere, so in the end we took the longest path, which I was much happier on, as it was lower down.
Another spectacular cove with sculptured white volcanic rock on either side and crystal clear water. Seemed like time to turn around as soon as we got there though,as it had taken us so long!
Think our legs could have done without the two false starts, but hopefully they’ll still be fully operational by tomorrow!
