Woke up to a light dusting of snow. It felt like we’d just gone to sleep – 3am when I last looked. We’re not sure if it’s something to do with altitude or attitude 😆The snow on the skylights made it feel like we were in an igloo!
Drove to Teruel, with the first stop being Lidl. Difficult to get to and difficult to park. Hadn’t realised it was a pay and display car park. Guy had, and tried to pay but the machine didn’t work. Came back to a parking ticket …it’s promptly been filed in the bin by the one who doesn’t do admin. Couldn’t even get out of the shop with the trolly either, it froze in the doorway and helpful lady came and zapped it with some kind of device. We thanked her then tried again. I think she said something like “you idiots, I’ve just sorted that for you once – do NOT take the trolley through those doors”!! Does she even know how heavy a weeks shopping is?
Parked up in proper motorhome parking, half an hour’s walk from the city centre. We didn’t really want to leave the van, it was blowing a gale and sooo cold!
Thankfully, the historical centre of Teruel was worth the bracing temperatures. It’s full of Mudéjar architecture, including four beautiful towers and a cathedral – all stunning from the outside. The cathedral was a bit of a let down inside, apart from its ceiling, especially as we’d waited for it to open.
There was also a really elegant flight of steps (La Ecalinata) leading up to the town on one side and a sixteenth century aqueduct (Los Arcos) on the other. Lots to see in this city and all quite close together.
