Drove further north and east today on a very windy motorway. Still cold but at least the sun was shining.

Parked near the Zaragoza ring road and got the tram into the city. It’s a big place with lots of modern development surrounding its two main attractions.

The tram brought us straight to the first one, the enormous Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. I always like these things better from the outside and this one, with its tiled domes and spires was particularly impressive. Inside was pretty good too, although still trying to work out why there were a couple of bombs hanging on the wall!

Made our way through the city streets (equivalent to Alfreton Road) towards the Aljaferia, after a short detour with an enthusiastic local to see another tower and church. Oh, and then a secondary detour when Guy got all nostalgic watching the bomberos putting out a house fire.

There was a queue outside the Aljaferia when we got there – think we were supposed to book online first. I’d read mixed reviews as parts of it are newish. In the end we settled for a walk around the outside – we can always come back another time. Glided back on the tram and just now realised that the drums we can hear in the van are actually the trams going past – perhaps they don’t glide after all!
