It did that rain thing again, so we’ve ended up driving further than we intended to today. Made our way through some very English looking landscape out towards the coast. We got to Kristiansund about lunchtime and it all looked a bit grim in the rain so we carried on.
The Atlantic Road which follows is quite an exciting drive as it’s a real feat of engineering. Lots of tiny islands are strung together by bridges – one in particular is a much photographed twisty turny sort of flyover. It looks so odd as you approach it, as it seems to just disappear into the sky. “Do you want to drive?” asks the husband hopefully, with one eye on his camera. I declined politely, as we may well have disappeared into the sky! Fortunately, there were loads of lay-bys before and after to get photos from. When we actually drove over it, it didn’t seem half as good as it looked.
Carried on to Molde, with the idea of parking up for the night, ready to get the ferry across to Vestnes in the morning. Unfortunately, there was no decent parking so we ended up boarding the 40 minute ferry. No one asked for payment as we got on, but the man comes round with his machine once the crossing is underway. We did our 6.9 metres trick and got charged the cheaper rate 👍. Thing was, as we drove off, the same man seemed to be mentally measuring up the length of our vehicle. 😳Maybe it was just our guilty conscience, as he waved us off quite cheerfully. 😂
Finally parked for the night as the clouds are rapidly descending on us like fog – the weather is always a bit dramatic here it seems. Not enough exercise today to warrant ‘spag bol ‘ or the red wine it’s been washed down with!
