It’s been one of those days. 🙄Started badly and didn’t get much better. I managed to completely block both plug holes in the shower (again!) just by washing my hair, thus flooding most of the lounge area. Instant panic…carpets outside to dry, heating on full blast to try and limit any damage as the water soaks itself into the chipboard walls and floors. All looks ok at the moment 🤞…I’ll have to get one of Guy’s £30 haircuts.
By the time we left it was pouring with rain. Visited another Sami culture site but quite similar to the last one. The road was as boring as a road could possibly be …only livened up by the chance of spotting a brown bear. There are more per square km in this area than anywhere else in the world apparently. Well…out of the blue, I saw one in the woods. Guy managed a quick turnaround, camera at the ready. “There it is!” I shouted, hardly able to contain my excitement. “Er…it’s a tree stump”
“No, I’m sure it’s a bear” Needless to say as we got further down the road there were many more immobile bears made of wood. 😢
After missing a turn off for the Hallinsafallet waterfalls, we ended up doing about 30km extra. The road was one long gravelly pot-holed nightmare. I suggested we should turn around after a couple of miles if it didn’t get any better…it didn’t, but the driver carried on. 🙄
Walked the 2.5km up the road to the highest point and ended up above the most powerful waterfall we’ve ever seen. It was quite spectacular. We chose to walk back on a never ending track through the woods – third mistake of the day. Think overgrown, mosquitos infested and swampy.
Had enough for one day really, but we were running out of both diesel and drinking water. The brochure for the wilderness road said you could drink water straight from the rivers. Guy filled our canister up – it was a pale brown colour 🤔…Engine on, back down the pothole road and eventually found a garage. Got diesel thankfully, and we found a little tap outside but the water was the same colour. At 8:45 pm we’ve finally found a free campsite with proper spring water. Lots of locals are sat outside with candles etc. even though it’s cold and getting dark. It’s the weekend after all, so they’ve probably just popped out to do a bit of DofE Gold for light entertainment. They’re a bit hard these Scandis!
