FA07954A-3A77-4C8D-A1D3-F87B200EFBFANo idea what happened to us this morning, but I woke up at 10:10am and Guy was still snoring. Kept turning my watch upside down as I couldn’t work out what it was saying. So weird ..haven’t woken up that late in years – apart from New Years Day sometimes!
Drove to Strömsund, which didn’t seem far at all, so we carried on to Östersund, where Google maps told us there was a Lidl supermarket. Having it on good advice that Sweden is cheaper than Norway for food, one of the main reasons for heading in this direction was to restock the fridge and cupboards.
Good news: It was so much cheaper!
Bad news: By the time we came out with our giant trolley load, the government run alcohol shop ‘Systembolaget’ was closed.
You can’t get wine from supermarkets here, or anything above about 4% alcohol and the rules are very strict. Systembolaget closes at 3pm Saturday and reopens at 10am Monday morning! Think the system would probably solve a lot of problems in the UK’s towns and cities.
I don’t think we can hang around in Sweden until Monday…it’s quite boring in this bit, compared to Norway.
Managed to fill up with water at a truck stop place and then carried on for a bit on the main road back towards Trondheim. It started to rain and hasn’t stopped since.
Parked on the edge of a lake now ..thinking about building an ark!4FFC5C04-00CF-4913-B177-2E79F78A70041178F256-426F-42D9-983A-6D396B2B3AE3

  1. Hi Janet and Guy, Your posts are fab…a real flavour of the areas, great pics, cultural commentary and always very entertaining. Love them, though l don’t think Scandinavia by campervan is for us…for several reasons! Good luck with the ark! Cheers, Catherine

    1. Ah, thanks Catherine. It’s got it’s good and bad really – like anywhere I suppose. The scenery is out of this world but it’s generally much cooler (as expected) and the towns are barely towns at all – there is no atmosphere or life in them. Don’t know what young people do other than hike! Incredibly expensive but that’s offset a little by the fact that they’re very geared up for motorhomes so we’ve only paid for a campsite about 3 times so far. I think you’d love it – you’ve jumped off a cliff after all! 😂France will be fab though and guaranteed good food and wine! Hope you have a great trip. Janet x (and Guy!)
