Not much sleep was had as the Poles next door seemed to be having a party till the early hours, which was ok by us, but then at 6am there was the sound of another motorhome moving in. Shortly after, there was lots of cheering, blowing of horns, cow bells ringing….We thought we’d overslept and missed the start of the race till we checked the time – 6:08AM!! Now, we all know there’s only one 6:08 in the day and it’s usually accompanied with a glass of wine, so we were very confused! 😂

The actual race started about 9:45 and we just managed to drag ourselves out in time to see that it had split already. There were a few away at the front and by the second lap, they seemed to have a massive lead. But as Guy predicted, they were soon bought back into the fold and promptly disposed of out the back. James Shaw (86) was doing well for Great Britain – could have done with a flag to wave like the rest of them.

All the Italians were having barbecues at big tables – we even saw a giant bacon slicing machine on one of them! It made us hungry, so we came back and had a giant steak sandwich each for lunch. Italy is not good for the waistline!

The group dwindled in the afternoon – they must have all been exhausted with all the hills, and the race was eventually won by Julian Alaphilippe for France.

Spent much of the day waving at the helicopter to try and get on telly, but despite standing next to two giant inflatable orange bottles we weren’t spotted ☹️Callum thought he saw his Dad though, later on.

Down in the local town now in a free car park with services. It’s pouring with rain, dark and cold – good chance to test the heating!
