This morning we set off to look around Pylos which is the next town north from Methóni. All was going well as we approached the huge parking on the port, thinking we’d stay for the day and possibly overnight. There was a market on but still plenty of space. A lad approached the van, selling windscreen wiper blades out of a carrier bag. “No thanks”says Guy. Pretending he doesn’t understand, he lifts up our wiper blade to show us and half pulls it out. Great scam! We were fuming 😡 It took Guy about twenty minutes to feed the blade back in to the wiper arm. We watched as four of them wandered round the car park – I wonder how many people came back to their cars to discover they needed a new wiper blade! 🙄
We decided to park at the other side of town and walked back in. Although it seemed a nice place we were still worried about leaving the van so we gave up and drove further north.
By contrast, we had a lovely afternoon at the very beautiful Voïdhokiliá beach. It’s a stunning crescent shape of white sand, with clear turquoise water bordered by cliffs.

The lagoons behind the beach are a bird conservation area and no doubt breeding ground for billions of mosquitoes – in fact, looking at the green water, I wouldn’t have been surprised if a crocodile popped up!

Guy went off in search of Nestor’s Cave – no sign of any bats today but as it was quite high up he got some good pics of the beach.

We’ve driven a bit further north to park as overnight parking was not allowed in the nature reserve. By the harbour wall in Agia Kiriaki – seems like a nice place and not a wiper blade seller in sight!
