Thought we’d try a different route over the alps – never heard of this one, but boy was it steep. The van was in second gear for a lot of it. We were wondering why google maps didn’t want to take us over this way, but realised half way up that it’s because there is a toll.

The scenery was amazing and the place was full of motorbikes as there’s a motorcycle museum near the top.

2509 metres at the highest point, it certainly feels like you’re on top of the world. The roads were a little rougher on the Italian side but still good driving.

At the bottom, not having done enough bends 🙄, the mad driver decided we should  go up to Vipiteno, by that point I’d definitely had enough!

Finally found an open shop for some water – everywhere closed today for the ‘Feast of the Assumption’.

Vipiteno is a lovely place and today, even better as the square was filled with trestle tables, makeshift bars and an Austrian oompah band. They were brilliant considering the amount of alcohol they consumed. Unfortunately, even their dancing on the tables didn’t manage to raise a smile with some people.

We loved it!
