The chapel we didn’t do!

It’s not a good start to the day when the shower somehow overflows and water appears on the lounge carpet! 😬We were definitely parked level, so I don’t know what an earth happened this time. I’ll have to stop washing my hair or get a Sinead O’ Connor done! Carpets outside to dry. Guy showing signs of internal combustion. 😬🤯

Late leaving Mende, which meant late arriving in Le Puy. Interesting drive though; lots of snow around on the mountain tops.

Le-Puy-en-Velay was a revelation – what a place! I can’t believe we’ve driven past it so many times over the years and never visited. The place is full of volcanic humps and bumps, with statues and churches on top of some of the highest rocks.

Being short on time, we decided to walk up to the highest one, the ‘Notre Dame de France’. A colossal, terracotta looking statue 130 metres above the town. Guy even went up inside it. I didn’t like the look of the never ending steep spiral staircase – I would have liked the ladder up to the crown even less. I got a phone call after a while telling me to look up, and an arm came out of a window somewhere near her head!

The views all around were stunning.

We also had a look in the cathedral which was up another thousand cobbled steps 😂

Brilliant place – we need to come back to go up to the chapel on the other rock pinnacle. Hopefully, I’ll be a bit fitter by then!

Long drive from 3pm onwards. We decided to stay on the motorway and pay the toll as we were still so far south. Just above Montluçon now after a frustrating search for water – most of the service taps are turned off due to the cold temperatures. We had to beg for some from a motorhome sales place in the end.
